When a series of unfortunate events and political treaties force the hands of world leaders, millions of young men and boys find themselves transported to the depths of hell. At this point in history, wars were still fought on battlegrounds; urban warfare, guerrilla tactics, and modern strategies adapted for mechanised fighting were still in their infancy for modern battles. At the start of the war, participating countries in the conflict were able to mobilise large quantities of the army and reserves. Germany had an army consisting of numbers in the millions, which dwarfed the battle-ready British army of only half a million, including the army reserves. As the relationship between the United Kingdom and Germany began to sour, troops belonging to the British army and the BEF, The British Expeditionary Force, were deployed and sent to the beaches of France. This was trench warfare.
